sequoia Soliloquy
for solo bassoon
Duration: 6’
I feel that the bassoon is the closest instrument, timbrally, to the sounds of a tree. When writing Sequoia Soliloquy, I wanted to explore ideas of what a tree might say if it could speak. The piece cycles through many moods, representing the many conflicting feelings a tree in today’s world might experience, from joyful sweetness to anger and exasperation.
Sequoia Soliloquy was composed for and premiered by bassoonist Hannah Stroh
