Sonatina for the inner child
for B-flat clarinet and piano
Duration: 6’30”
I. Nostalgia
II. Whimsy
Sonatina for the Inner Child was written for Erin Dowler’s D.M.A. lecture recital with the goal of adding a new work to the clarinet’s pre-college and early college repertoire. When writing, many hours were spent considering my level of playing at the pre-college stage, so my own inner child made her way into this piece of music. As a result, Sonatina for the Inner Child explores two perspectives as conjoined movements: one of nostalgic reflection, and the other of the spontaneity and whimsy of releasing that inner child as an adult with satisfying abandon.
Sonatina for the Inner Child was commissioned for and premiered by Erin Dowler with pianist Genadi Zagor.
